Q:
What is the main cause for a pump seal failure?
A:
95% of the time seal failures are caused by a dirty system. Mud on a seal face shortens the life of the pump seal.
Q:
I’ve got a Bell & Gossett, end suction pump with a 40 HP motor and I can’t seem to get the flow and head it was designed to do. What am I missing?
A:
The first thing to check is motor rotation. A centrifugal pump will move water even when it is pumping backwards. Many times this problem is solved by changing rotation.
Q:
My pump sounds like it is pumping gravel. What is wrong?
A:
First thing to check in the suction pressure. Install a pressure gauge on the suction side of the pump and compare the reading to the required net positive suction head (NPSH) requirement of the pump.
